Venice Garden Tour

Folks, the Venice Garden Tour is May 5th. I cannot wait! I have always opted to go on the Art Walk (May 19th and 20th) in lieu of the Garden Tour and last year, I cringed with envy over all the photos from friends on Facebook. Pretty much my favorite thing to do is spy on people’s houses. This is why I clock at least 2 hours per evening scouring design blogs. It’s a problem. Really. I bought my tour tickets the day the mailer arrived.

We went on a mini tour of our own last eve. You see, many nights after dinner, we take a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood. We’re not free loving meanderers by choice like I’d like you to believe. Really, we’re trying to kill that hour between dinner and bedtime with our darling Mia. The natives get restless and some nights the most peaceful path is a walk around the block. It’s much easier to put on a pair of shoes than draw sixteen kitties, build legos, handle iPad negotiations and dance a jig while singing a few rounds of Pippi Longstocking (all the while checking the time to see if MAYBE ten minutes has passed). Last night on our jaunt I took a glass of wine with me. I know. Girl gone wild! I could have been arrested, but that added bonus just made it all special. There is so much inspiration just on our block. I really appreciate the landscaping in our area. Below is pretty much my dream concrete fence. Swoon! And, as usual, Mia admired all the rocks.

Okay, so this is so unlike me, but I have a girly tip for all you pedicure loving ladies today. The weather has been so gorgeous lately (*when it’s not a wind storm at the boardwalk or pouring rain, that is), and I’ve been skipping around in my flip flops. After months of polish abuse, a few weeks ago I decided to go au natural to prep my toenails for summer fun. Problem is, my toe nails turned white and blotchy from what I can assume is chemical abuse so I vowed to let them breathe before Essie’s latest marketing campaign gets the best of me. I googled some natural remedies, and can you believe it? Lavender oil is the cure all. I kid you not. I am astonished. After ten minutes of a little TLC, my toes are back in business. No kidding. I’d show you the before and after, but then you might have to poke your eyes out in horror.

Matta at Firefly!

I have been a long time admirer of Matta. Their Spring Collection is just unbelievable. I couldn’t resist. We are all dying of delight at the store. Their clothes are effortlessly chic and the accessories are to swoon over. The designs are honestly perfect for the beach or a fancy schmancy wedding. I’ve got my eye on a gold leather coin purse with punched out stars. Oh, and a couple of dresses and pretty much every single scarf (who can resist pompoms?). Everything layers so well together. What’s a girl to do?

Bunny Farm!

Look! It’s the cutest bunny farm ever! I have been patiently waiting almost a year to share these pictures. Now that the Easter Bunny is on his way, the timing seems just right.

Last summer, while visiting Mia’s grandparents in Denmark, we went to an old farmhouse that was giving a lecture on… well, who am I kidding, I didn’t understand a word, but the farmer seemed happy enough to share every detail. I got a few winks and eye rolls from Farfar (Grandpa) and I sensed that the lecture was 45 minutes longer than need be.

This particular farm only raises pure bred animals and treats them with the highest level of integrity. Obviously, that’s what the sign says:

Everything was amazing here from all the old tools hanging on the walls to old farm tables in the barn with random loaves of fresh baked bread sitting on benches. Mia had so much fun riding this tractor and enjoying all the animals. And I only wanted to take home two baby goats and four chickens.

But seriously, best of all, BUNNIES! Happy Easter to All!

Lovely Craft Project

I’ve been really itching to do a craft project lately. We just got these in at the shop, and I think they are just precious. Sometimes the smallest bursts of color bring me such tremendous joy.

With the recent rain, I keep imagining sitting by the fire with a cup of tea and whipping up a few strands listening the pitter pat against the tin roof. Mia would be by my side patiently watching in awe as I crafted a small mobile for the window and a couple of Mommy and me necklaces.

Of course, we don’t have a fireplace or a tin roof and Mia would probably be jumping on the bed wildly singing or begging for the iPad in lieu of special craft time but a girl can dream.

Kid Love – Crunch Time

Four french hens, three turtle doves, two peacocks and a jingle in the bell. This is how I sing the lyrics while trying to do it all and be gracious all along. I can’t get it all right. Believe me, the birds are calling. It seems crazy that at midnight a sigh of relief will come over me while I’m wrapping gifts when I learn that a major box store will be open at six am. I try to buy very little online. I try to support as many small stores as possible. I try to be green when I can. Sometimes, I need to buy legos at a chain store. I think there is room for everyone and everyone should be supported. Small stores are important because each of them curate a very personal story. We need the brick and mortar because quite frankly, and I’m not trying to quote one of my favorite holiday albums, but people need people. People who need people are the luckiest people in the world. Right now, people, we need presents. Sometimes, they are at Barnes and Noble. Sometimes, they are simply down the street at your local go to… so please support when you can make that choice. The truth is most of us are juggling a lot of things on our plate right now. Lucky for us, little kids feel like a cinch. Kids are over the moon over most toys big and small. It’s party time people. Dinner parties, work parties, holiday parties and the cruelest of them all: birthday parties. Don’t Sagittarius friends know we are too busy this month with Jesus’ birthday? I can’t keep up. Okay, I only have three parties to go to this year, but I can’t find a thing to wear never mind that we haven’t gotten our tree yet. Today we have compiled our favorite hostess gifts to carry us through the New Year.
